Currently associated with Paramount Biosciences, as President of Paramount Corporate Development he oversees the creation of new biopharmaceutical companies where his team of industry experts guides company formation, product development, licensing strategy and valuation.
Prior to Paramount, during 18 years at Aventis he was directly responsible for the commercialization and launch of multiple brands at both a local and global level, culminating in his joining the Global Operating Committee in 2001. In particular he lead the rejuvenation of Aventis? diabetes franchise through the development and launch of global blockbuster anti-diabetic agents such as Amaryl ($800mm) and Latnus (> $2bn), which served as the basis for the transformational global commercialization initiative subsequently applied to all Aventis brands. He also led Aventis' New Products Group with responsibilities for driving the development of the early stage portfolio and defining business development strategy across all therapeutic areas. He has been instrumental in negotiating multiple license arrangements and managing strategic alliances.
Outside of his global experience, John's ample operation experience was gained locally and regionally, mainly in Europe and Latin America. As Commercial Director for Hoechst Pharma in Mexico he led the launch of 10 brands over a period of five years. Subsequently he became Regional Director of Latin America for Hoechst Corporation where he was responsible for all Hoechst activities across the 12 major countries of the region. After leaving Aventis in 2002 he served as CEO of Genzyme in Germany, where he engineered a 12 month organizational turnaround and successfully re-launched stagnating major brands.
As head of Ernst & Young's Life Sciences Advisory, John specialized in topics such as sales force effectiveness, pricing, global launch readiness, market analytics, and portfolio management. His clients included Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer, Aventis and Endo Pharmaceuticals.
John has a BSc in Biochemistry from Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. He serves on the board of 4 Paramount companies and is a Director of Darier Laboratories (a large Mexican dermatology company). He speaks fluent Spanish and German.
